Families are the groups of Star Monsters. There are four families, they are based on the classical elements; earth, plant, water and air. Each family has a different amount of Star Monsters within it.
Series 2 added three new families, Ice, Sound and Shadow, bringing the total amount of familes to 7.
The place where the Star Monster is formed will influence which one of 7 Star Monsters families it will belong to:
Each family has a symbol to repersent it. Star Monsters usually have physical aspects to them that make them recognisable to their family.

- Belock's biography suggests that Family is a choice, and a Star Monster can be chosen for a Family rather than be predetermined for one.
